SEMI-FINALISTS SELECTED FOR CITY'S LATEST PERCENT FOR ART COMPETITION PHILADELPHIA

From a pool of 176 applicants, nine artists were selected to prepare detailed proposals for the City of Philadelphia's latest Percent for Art project: Manayunk CSO Basin at the Venice Island Recreation Center. At a date yet to be determined, these locally and renown artists, some of whom are working teams, will present their ideas to a selection panel comprised of City officials and arts professionals.

Based on the artist's past artwork as well as on their preliminary concepts for the site, the 9 semi-finalists were specifically recommended for the Manayunk project. The artwork budget is $275,000, which may be awarded to one semi-finalist or divided among more than one.

PHILADELPHIA CELEBRATES RESTORATION AND NEW LIGHTING OF CITY HALL TOWER STATUES

Public rededication and lighting ceremony to be held Tuesday, December 4 at 6 p.m. The City of Philadelphia will host a public ceremony on Tuesday, December 4 at 6 p.m. on the Municipal Services Building Plaza to rededicate and light the Alexander Milne Calder statues on the City Hall tower: William Penn and the eight sculptural groups of Native Americans, Swedish Settlers, and Eagles. The groundbreaking restoration of the eight sculptural groups of Native Americans, Swedes, and Eagles was completed in February, and the conservation treatment of the William Penn atop the building was completed this month.

ARTISTS SELECTED FOR PERCENT FOR ART COMMISSION: PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT

PHILADELPHIA - Out of 340 applicants, artists were selected to receive the commission for the City of Philadelphia's latest Percent for Art project at the Philadelphia International Airport. In the fall of 2006, twelve  semi-finalists,  local  and  nationally  renowned  artists,  presented  their  ideas  to  a  selection  panel comprised of City officials and arts professionals.  Of these twelve artists and artist teams, a selection was made  for  the  sites.    This  two-part  commission  includes  two  separate  site  locations  identified  for  the
installation of permanent artwork.  The two commissions awarded for this project.  The artwork budget for the Terminal D-E Escalator walls is up to $250,000, and the artwork budget for the Terminal E Rotunda is up to $350,000.
