In 2000, the Aero Memorial received its first major conservation treatment. The sculpture was removed from its location and transported to a controlled off site environment for treatment. The surface of the bronze recieved complete corrosion removal as well as complete gilding with gold leaf to match its original finish that had deteriorated.
